Best Bar None – Getting a grip on impact

Bar-staff.jpg

Best Bar None is a national scheme operating in over 80 UK town centres and whose mission is to improve standards in licensed premises and drive trade to those venues that take the customer experience and safety seriously.

We have been asked to create a ‘toolkit’ to help local Best Bar None schemes identify the impact of their scheme on crime reduction, reducing hospital admissions and improving footfall and turnover.

One of the most difficult challenges we find is for local (and indeed national) schemes in the night-time economy is to provide even reasonably robust evidence that their interventions actually work. Whilst they cannot expect to match the rigour of an academic study, some basic figures on impact before and during the intervention can help build confidence and open up new venues for future planning, management, evaluation and reflection.
