MAKE Night-time Economics

In 2008 MAKE originated the concept of measuring the night-time economy. We called this model the MAKE Night-Mix Index. The NMI uses various public and private datasets to put a value on NTE turnover, employment, taxes, firm births and deaths, as well as to measure the sector’s performance over time.

The MAKE Night-Mix Index has since been the template for many studies globally (they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery), but our knowledge of the data, how to segment the night-time economy and ability to model future NTE growth remains unique to us.

In 2010 we added the ability to model after dark costs such as policing, health and local governance. The MAKE Night-Mix Index is the foundation of all good night-time economy strategies.
