One of Mary Portas’ recommendations, in her review of town centres and the high street commissioned by the then Prime Minster, was to have a day when the whole country celebrated the importance, diversity and excitement that markets bring to their communities. The result was ‘Love Your Local Market’ - an events campaign supported by the National Association of British Market Authorities ((NABMA)  at over 300 markets nationally. 

MAKE is bringing its expertise of running markets, consumer insight and placemaking (as part of a team with retail experts ROI) to evaluate the impact of the “Love Your Local Market”. What has it done to raise the profile of markets, attract new traders and drive up footfall? Our results will be out later, but the government has already said it is committed to further backing the campaign, which is great news. So, here’s to an even better ‘Love Your Local Market’ (informed by MAKE and ROI’s recommendations of course!)
